Disability & Inclusion

Providing inclusive opportunities for children and young people with disabilities

The Y Southland believes everyone should have access to physical activity opportunities.

Our Disability and Inclusion Advisor runs programmes and initiatives specifically for children and young people with disabilities and/or impairments and provides free and fun opportunities to engage with physical activity and with the community.

Offering both in school and out of school opportunities, we provide supportive group environments where participants are encouraged to give things a go and to encourage and motivate each other along the way.

We can offer

  • in school physical activity opportunities
  • out of school hours group programmes and sessions (including our Y Not Squad – a weekly group that meets every Monday to engage with new opportunities)
  • advice and support for organisations/businesses to provide more inclusive environments
  • workshops that focus on including young people with disabilities in programmes/opportunities
  • and more

We’re here to help and to create a more inclusive Murihiku, where every child and young person with a disability has opportunity to participate in physical activity.
