The Y is always happy to hear from people who want to work in a community-focused organisation.
We have roles across youth services, youth development, in our gym team, in climbing, education, administration, management, and more! We have a range of permanent full-time and part-time roles, as well as casual positions.

All permanent employees at the Y Southland are entitled to a free gym membership at the Y, and a paid day off on your birthday.
Relief Tutor opportunities
At the Y we have four classrooms, delivering Intensive Literacy and Numeracy (ILN), and the NZ Certificate in Foundation Skills Levels 1 and 2 to learners aged 16+.
Our programmes are designed to support rangatahi who haven’t quite found success at school, and we provide a supportive, encouraging environment to help them build confidence, skills and a pathway forward.
We’re on the lookout for relief tutors to step in on a casual, as-needed basis.
If you’re passionate about teaching, patient, and keen to make a real difference but maintain flexibility in your mahi, we’d love to hear from you!

Casual Cleaner
We’re looking for a Casual Cleaner to join our Health & Fitness Centre team. In this role, you’ll help maintain the high standards that make our facility safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for all members and visitors.
Working on an as-needed basis, your efforts will ensure every person who walks through our doors has a positive experience. You’ll be part of a supportive team that values reliability, teamwork, and attention to detail.

Youth Worker
The Y Southland is looking for a youth worker to join our team and provide positive mentoring and support for young people referred to our service.
This role is for a minimum of 20 hours per week, with scope to add more hours. Adaptability, flexibility and great communication skills are a must, as is the ability to create strong, positive and trusting relationships with young people.
