Join the team at the Y!

The Y is always happy to hear from people who want to work in a community-focused organisation.

We have roles across youth services, youth development, in our gym team, in climbing, education, administration, management, and more! We have a range of permanent full-time and part-time roles, as well as casual positions.

We list all vacancies on this page. If you don’t see anything that quite fits, but are interested in supporting our vision of building strong kids, strong families and strong communities, please feel free to reach out anyway! Email your details to hr@ysouthland.org.nz.

All permanent employees at the Y Southland are entitled to a free gym membership at the Y, and a paid day off on your birthday.

Foundation Skills Level 1 Tutor

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team as a Tutor, supporting Y learners to shape their future and follow their interests.

You’ll be teaching the New Zealand Certificate in Foundation Skills Level 1 and supporting our learners to achieve this along with NCEA qualifications.

Experience in a teaching or similar environment would be highly valued, but equally, we’d love to hear from anyone who has relevant experience along with a passion for supporting young minds to learn and to grow.

Ideally you’ll hold Unit Standard 4098, and have experience using the Literacy and Numeracy for Adults Assessment Tool. A National Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education (Vocational/Workplace), or active progress towards, is highly desired, however the Y can support you to achieve relevant qualifications.

At the Y you can expect professional development opportunities, a free Y gym membership, and a paid day off on your birthday, along with meaningful and rewarding work.

To apply, please send a copy of your CV and a cover letter to hr@ysouthland.org.nz by 26th June 2026.
