Y Squads
Free opportunities for Southland teens to connect with community and each other.
Y Squads are groups of like-minded young people who want to try new things and meet new friends.
These free weekly programmes for teens include a heap of awesome activities – from arts to archery, fitness to friendship, you’ll get to engage with activities that you’re interested in.
It’s all about connecting with wellbeing, strengthening your self-confidence, making friends, having fun and seeing just what your community has to offer.
We have Y Squads for different groups of young people – newcomers, rainbow youth, girls, rural young people and young people with impairments.
- free weekly sessions for people aged between 12 and 24 years
- try activities and engage with community organisations that you are interested in
- meet new people
- improve your wellbeing and confidence
- and have fun!
Each week will have a focus area – physical activity, wellbeing, and community connection. You’ll get to try a heap of activities, based on your interests, and connect with different people, organisations, groups, and find out just what your local community has to offer.
Y Squads are funded by the Ministry of Youth Development. They are free programmes designed to connect young people with like-minded peers, with community, with opportunities and with new activities that support you to grow in confidence. They are focused on both physical and mental wellbeing and focus on youth voice – we want to hear what you think, and provide a safe, supported space where you can be YOU!
We’ll have days and times for our 2024 Y Squads soon, but if you are interested please get in touch today.
