Faces of The Y Nominations

Nominate a Face of The Y

For 150 years, since the Invercargill YMCA was established as a not-for-profit in 1876, The Y has been the place people come back to. The gym you found your feet in, the team you played for, the programme that filled your afternoons and holidays, the mentor who believed in you, the face behind the desk who remembered your name.

Multiply that by generations of Southlanders, and it's too big for one story. So we're telling it in 150.

It doesn't have to be a big story. Sometimes it's the small ones, the memory that makes you smile, or the moment that has stuck with you. So many Southlanders have a connection to The Y. If it's been part of your story, we want to hear it.

Stories will be added in the lead-up to our 150th birthday celebrations during mid-October, building a fuller picture of what 150 years of The Y in Southland looks like.

Share your story, or nominate someone whose story deserves to be told. Stories need to be submitted by midnight Friday, 18th September 2026.
