We offer two free 20 week programmes – the NZ Certificate in Foundation Skills Level 1 and the NZ Certificate in Foundation Skills Level 2. We also offer Intensive Literacy and Numeracy.

Our programmes

  • offer free and inclusive learning and pathways to NCEA Levels 1 and 2
  • are based at the Y Southland (77 Tay St, Invercargill), and include a free Y gym membership while enrolled
  • are available to learners aged between 16 and 24 years (or 15 with an exemption certificate)
  • have rolling intakes throughout the year
  • include pastoral care, as and when you need it

We aim to provide individualised learning support in a group environment, because we know not everyone learns the same. We want you to bring your full selves to class every day and try to create a fun and inclusive environment for you to thrive.

NZ Certificate in Foundation Skills Level 1

This programme provides students with the opportunity to explore their culture and own areas of interest to gain awareness of their own self. It aims to provide a good foundation for youth to progress in education, life or preparing for getting into work and their employment skill development. Literacy and Numeracy standards are embedded into the programme to provide the opportunity for learners to obtain the necessary unit standards for NCEA.

NZ Certificate in Foundation Skills Level 2

This programme will provide youth with work and life skills, preparing them to be ready for work and/or pathway into further study. The programme consists of four courses which help learners develop basic capabilities and competencies to pursue pathways into employment or further education.
