The Y’s family memberships are a great way to get the whole family moving.

But how do they work? And who is eligible? Read on!

The Y Southland’s family memberships are for families living under the same roof.

So if you’ve got two parents and up to three kids aged between 6 and 19 living at home, you can all be part of the same membership (which works out to be very cheap p/person!).

No kids? No worries!

We know families come in all shapes and sizes, so if it’s a couple living under the same roof, you’re eligible for a family membership, too.

Or you’re a parent with up to three kids living at home.

Or a parent with one child  …. whatever! So long as you’re in some sort of a family unit, all living under the same roof, there’s a max of two adults and three kids, our family membership will apply.

Family gym memberships = great value!

They work out to be extremely good value.

For just $18.90 p/week your whole family can join the Y, and you can cancel anytime.

Or for just $935 paid up front you can have a family membership for a full 12 months, which works out to less than $18 p/week for up to five people – wow!

SPRING GYM SPECIAL: From 1 September to 30 September, 2025, we have a spring special, where you can get a 12 month family membership for just $800! Although it’s payable in one sum, it works out to less than $15.50 p/week for up to five people – amazing value! This is available from 1 September.

But how do family gym memberships work?

Our family memberships work like all of our memberships, really. One person signs up for the membership, then the other family members will each come in to sig up and be attached to that membership. You’ll get a maximum of two key tags, which gives you 24/7 access.

All kids under 14 must be actively supervised by an adult in the gym – which means within arm’s reach.

Anyone aged 14/15 can use the gym on their own during staffed hours, but will need to be accompanied by an adult during unstaffed hours.

And anyone on the membership who is aged over 16 can use the key tag for 24/7 access on their own.
